New York gives "Mrs Carey's concert" the thumbs up!
Tuesday, May 3, 2011

"Mrs Carey's Concert" was part of a program of films curated by Laurence Kardish at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, honouring the contribution by the Adelaide Film Festival to Australian film.

Sophie presented the film at two screenings. It really thrilled the New York audiences, especially the quality of the music acheived by the students. The Q&A session were unstoppable and people were full of praise.

"Bravo to you and Bob Connolly for producing such a fine representation of real music education!  Our USA school systems (public and private) desperately need to see this.  Your film provides direct anecdotal evidence that artistic education teaches not only a lifelong skill in the arts, but leadership, cooperation, problem-solving and respect for others on so many levels.
Mrs. Carey is quite an inspiration."

The World Premiere Event- "Mrs Carey's Concert" is officially public!
Sunday, March 6, 2011

Mrs Carey's Concert opened the Adelaide Film Festival to an audience on 2500 people at the Festival Theatre last Thursday. At the appointed time our cast and crew - Sophie Raymond, Bob Connolly, Helen Panckhurst, Karen Carey, Emily Sun, Louise Keller et al  walked the Red Carpet to a foyer full of filmmakers and festival goers.

The Festival technical staff had done a brilliant job, getting the sound and vision just right, and the film could not have had a better venue to premiere in. The audience response was truly wonderful. They laughed and cried and seemed carried away by the whole journey. As the Festival Theatre is just that- a theatre and concert hall stage-  the audience really felt transported into the Opera House.

For reveiws of the night click here.

Katrina Sedgwick- the Festival Director had the excellent idea of giving the audience a special opening night treat by lining up a live performance with Emily Sun ( the feature student in the film ) and the Marryatville High School Orchestra- conducted by Aldis Sils.

So as the credits came to a close a spot light came up on Emily and the audience were elated. She received quite the ovation, even before she had played. They then launched into the final 3 minutes of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and what followed was a standing ovation that lasted for 5 minutes as cast and crew took to the stage to take the bow.

The after party was a very positvie affair for all, as the subjects of the film who were present were treated like stars.

The Variety Review came out the following day and we've been managing interest from US Distributors, Australian Exhibitors. International Broadcasters and Festivals and a generally delighted response to the film from audience and industry.

We couldn't have wished for a better platform from which to launch the film and can't thank Katrina and the Adelaide Film Festival enough for jumping on board when they did and setting up the circumstances for, what looks to be a very healthy life for "Mrs Carey's Concert".

So look out for "Mrs Carey's Concert" in a cinema near you!!

Mrs Carey's Concert World Premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival
Wednesday, January 12, 2011

The Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival (BAFF) was one the investors in Mrs Carey's Concert.

Click here to see our BAFF listing
BAFF has a tradition of investing in Australian feature length films and we were lucky  to earn their contribution at a crucial stage in our production. It meant we could create a bells and whistles 5.1 surround sound cinema mix. BAFF supported films premiere at the Festival, and Mrs Carey's Concert  will be too!

The Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival runs Feb 24th- March 6th, 2011

The program will be announced on Jan 28th ... so stay tuned for that and keep and eye on...

Cast and Crew Preview
Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Last night, Nov 23rd 2010, we had our Cast and Crew Preview of "Mrs Carey's Concert" at the AFTRS theatre in Sydney. It was the film's first public screening and seemed to go down very well with the audience - mostly the film's subjects and our crew, together with film and music industry people. Our decision to go for broke with the sound track (5.1 surround sound mix at Music & Effects in Melbourne) seemed completely vindicated, judging by the enthusiastic audience reaction. But you'd expect that from a cast and crew affair. Nevertheless, we were pretty happy with proceedings.

If you were there please let us know your thoughts!
